Batata Wada

The origin of Batata Wada is Maharashtra, India. But Batata Wada is gaining popularity in all over India as well. Batata Wada is a popular Indian vegetarian fast food in Maharashtra, India. It literally means potato fritters. The name "Batata" means potato in English. It consists of a potato mash patty coated with chick pea flour, then deep-fried and served hot with savory condiments called chutney. The wada is a sphere, around two or three inches in diameter. Batata Wada recipe is also available in Bangladesh. Potato is a common vegetable all over the world. Potato grows plenty in Bangladesh, India and Europe. We can prepare many recipes from potato. Batata Wada is one of them. When I first ate this Batata Wada recipe in India, it was completely uncommon to me. So from then, I was decided to make this recipe. Batata Wada recipe is very delicious and nutritious as well. In Bangladesh, potato is available. The cooking ingredients are also available. So at first I arrange the spices and ingredients and finally prepare this Batata Wada recipe. The method of preparation is here;

Ingredients:
* 3/4 lb potatoes
* 4 onions medium (chopped finely)
* 2 cups Bengali gram flour
* 4 green chilies
* A small piece ginger
* 4 cloves garlic
* 2 teaspoons grated coconut
* Sugar to taste
* Juice of one lime
* Coriander leaves ( A few sprigs chopped)
* Oil for deep frying
* 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
* 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
* 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
* 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
* A pinch of soda bi carb ( Baking soda )
Salt as per taste

Method:
1. Boil potatoes, peel and slightly mash. Blend together the green chillies, garlic and ginger to a fine paste. Mix together the potato, onion, ginger and garlic chilli paste, coriander leaves, sugar, lime juice and salt to taste.
2. Heat a little oil and add the mustard seeds and curry leaves. When the mustard crackles, remove from heat and add to the potato mixture and mix well.
3. Make a smooth batter with the Bengal gram flour, salt to taste, cumin seeds, red chilli powder and turmeric powder.
4. Add a teaspoon of hot oil when making the batter. let the batter remain thick.
5. Divide the potato mixture into equal sized portions, the size of the lemon.
6. Deep each ball in the batter and deep fry till golden brown in color.

Serve Batata Wada as snacks or fast food.
